For some people, coming up with blog post ideas is easy. For others, it feels like tedius work.

Sometimes all it takes to jumpstart your creative juices is a different way of thinking.

Thinking outside the box or using a different method of coming up with ideas can help you come up with titles that you would have never thought of if you tried to come up with them linearly.

Here are five different ways you can come up with unique, top notch blog post ideas.

#1: Look at a Video

Do a search for a video in your industry. If there are trending topics, new breakthroughs or hot news in video form, take a look at it.

Browsing video can give you a different perspective than reading blogs. Events can be captured on video in a way that can’t be expressed on a web page.

Looking at a video can help you spark creative juices and think about topics in a different light.

#2: Write About What Keeps You Up At Night

If you run a small business and find yourself constantly checking your AdWords spend at night and first thing in the morning, write about that.

If you run a parenting blog and find that you’re often worried about whether you’re providing too much or too little guidance, write about that.

If there’s something that’s keeping you up at night, chances are other members of your target audience are experiencing the same thing. These can turn into some of your juiciest posts.

#3: Pay Attention to Casual Conversations

If you’re having a casual conversation with someone who falls into your target market, pay attention.

What kind of topics do you tend to talk about? What random tip caught your attention? Was there a question or pain point that was raised during the conversation?

If you’re on the lookout for blog post topics while you’re talking to someone in your target audience, there’s a very good chance you’ll find one.

#4: Write About an Accomplishment

Ultimately, your role as a blogger is that of a teacher, a guide, an inspirer or a thought provoker. People look to bloggers to learn, for a different perspective, for news or for guidance.

Writing about your accomplishments, with detailed analysis of how they can replicate the process for themselves, is both a powerful and an effective way of helping your readers and building more reader loyalty.

#5: Use Other Popular Posts for Inspiration

Open the five most popular blogs in your industry. Look for a column that says “recommended posts” or “top posts” or “most viewed posts.”

Usually blogs will have between five and twenty of their best posts featured on the site.

Read through some of these blog titles. Browse the content.

Use them as inspiration to help you come up with even better ideas. Has there been a problem you haven’t addressed on your site yet? Is there a sub-niche that you’ve ignored?

Using other people’s best ideas to launch your own ideas is a solid way of finding top notch blog posts.

Anytime you find that you’re having trouble coming up with good ideas, try using one of these five methods to come up with a new post idea. Often all you need is a new way of looking at things.
