7 Reasons Your Articles Aren’t Giving You Results
Written by Alexis Rodrigo
Article marketing is one of the best online marketing strategies. It’s virtually free, and it gets great results – if done right.
Submit the properly-written articles in article directories, and you will:
- drive traffic to your site
- get leads who are interested in your product or service
- make affiliate sales or product sales without paying for advertising
- enhance your status as an expert in your field
- get exposure in other blogs and sites, and possibly even media exposure
- help your site get higher rankings in search engine results pages
But what if you’re not seeing these results from your article marketing efforts? Then it’s time to look at how your articles are written in the first place.
Here are 7 most common reasons why your articles are not giving you the results you want:
1. The topic is relevant.
Are people interested in the topic? Do some keyword research to find out. Which brings us to…
2. The article isn’t search engine optimized.
It’s easy for articles in directories to rank well in the search engines, because article directories already have high page ranking. But you still have to optimize your article for your target keywords. Otherwise, your potential readers won’t find your article.
3. Your title is boring.
Your article is competing with many others for your readers’ attention. Make sure your title is compelling enough to grab your readers’ attention and make them read.
4. Your article summary is a flop.
The article summary is not an excerpt. It should capture the key points of your article and entice the reader to read the rest of the article.
5. The content doesn’t deliver.
Your title is catchy, but the rest of your content doesn’t deliver what the title promised. Your readers will move on to the next article.
6. You gave away too much information.
If you’ve met the readers’ need completely, they won’t have a reason to click through to your website anymore. Write the article so the readers are hungry for more – and promise to give it to them when they click the link.
7. Your byline sucks.
Perhaps it doesn’t have a clear call to action. Maybe you forgot to use the right anchor text for your links. Grab this blueprint to make sure your byline does the work it’s supposed to.
Next time you’re about to submit an article to a directory, go over this list to make sure you haven’t committed any of these mistakes.
Article marketing works – but only if you do it right.
