Build Confidence for Better Content
Written by Kathryn Lang
Confidence can be the single ingredient that marks the difference between remarkable content and unmemorable words. Developing that confidence as a writer does not come easily to most people. It all starts with the right attitude.
Developing an Attitude of Confidence for Content
1. Profess your position. I had the chance to attend a writer’s conference where the keynote speaker had the audience speak aloud the phrase “I am a writer.”
Hearing those words come out of my mouth was weird at first, but after a few times they began to be more comfortable. It was not long before I was telling others “I am a writer” and the more I uttered the phrase, the more comfortable I became in the concept.
2. Build your expertise. Saying I am a writer only begins the process. I have to learn the craft. Online classes (like the recently launched “Better Content Marketing” offered through this site) help to increase my knowledge of this particular market and also develop my craft for formulating great content.
3. Put action behind the words. I can say I write, and I can learn more about how to write, but until I begin writing those efforts are in vain. The old saying may be “actions speak louder than words” but the reality is that actions reveal the truth of the words spoken.
4. Find support. No matter what level my writing reaches, there are days when things do NOT go my way. The world seems to come at me from all directions and I doubt my ability, my dream and my heart.
It never fails that it will on those days that I will get an email from a colleague or a comment on previous content that will help me put things back in perspective and get my passion back on the right track.
5. Know your plan. Creating a business plan should be the first step that every entrepreneur takes. Writers should also develop a plan. Knowing the purpose behind what I write helps me maintain confidence in my content. I also make better decisions about what to write and when to write when I fully understand the place where I want my writing to take me.
I am a writer. Who are you?
What are the phrases that you say about your content, your website and even your life building around you?
Let today be the beginning of the new path. Choose to speak the words that will build the foundation of success. Follow up those words with knowledge and wisdom that are pushed on with action. Keep supporters around you but also have a plan of action that can guide you along the way.
Building confidence in your writing starts with building an attitude of success for your life.

Everybody says "Content is King", but what does that mean for you?

Alice Seba says:
This is wonderful, Kathryn. I think step #1 is so key. Saying it out loud and say it again. You’ll get more confident.
Roseanna Leaton says:
Geat advice. I think everyone is a little shy at first to say “I am a writer”. I went out on my local golf course yesterday wearing my Ezine Articles “Expert Author” cap – its bright red with those words emblazoned across it…the only thing is that nobody noticed!
Kathryn Lang says:
Hey Alice – People often underestimate the power of the spoken word. I believe that it can be one of the strongest tools in our war chest. Speaking those words can give me the courage to push on to the success that I desire!
Hey Roseanna – I LOVE the hat idea, and I would have noticed if I had been there!
Roseanna Leaton says:
I wore it again today…shot 78 which was nice…and still nobody noticed the hat!
Alice Seba says:
You go Roseanna. That’s AWESOME!
Roseanna Leaton says:
Not quite up to qualifying for Pebble…lol! But I was happy.
