Content Brainstorming – Anywhere…Anytime.

Written by Alice Seba

A lot of my brainstorming and even content creation takes place away from the computer. Sometimes, it’s when I’m taking a break and lazing about. Other times while I wait for the kids to come out of school.

And still others, when I head out of the house for a change in scenery.

With today’s technology there’s no reason to be tied to your computer when you can creative just about anywhere.

The video above is a small part of Lesson 2 of the Better Content Marketing course. While students get a complete lesson and assignment, this was just a little something extra I put together for them that I thought you might also be interested in. It’s based on my tech gadget of choice – the iPhone…but the ideas can be applied to a wide variety of mobile devices.

If you’re looking to be more productive and more creative – all the while enjoying your life and meeting your obligations, click play to watch.

  1. It took me 3 months to discover I had a timer on my iPhone – lol! It definitely takes a change in mindset for some of us to start full utilizing the power and convenience of our smart phones. Even with my iPhone in hand, I was still telling myself that I’d make notes when I got to my laptop. Thankfully I’m making better use of my iPhone now and this post is a great help in my quest to improve lifestyle and productivity :)

    • Thanks for the feedback, Sharon. Yeah, a lot of people seem to like the timer, so I mentioned it. I find I will just write when I’m ready and trying to time it interferes with my flow.

P.S. Comment made using my iPhone :-)

  2. Wow, that was really great. Pretty sure I can convince my husband a smart phone is a business expense. I really like the possibility of getting all the errands and other things that need to be done, without losing productivity.

    Thank you!

    • For sure – get him on board. ;-) I do get so much done and procrastinate less on the errands and other things that need to be done.

  3. I have used my “regular” cell phone to record my thoughts. For example, I call myself and leave a voice mail/memo with my article content. I then transcribe my audio and publish it as an article.

    • What a great use of available technology. Perfect!

  4. True about taking pictures. I get inspiration in book stores so I just snap pictures of books I find interesting. Gives me ideas for articles.

    • Well, there you go…and idea right there. Thanks for sharing, Clara.

  5. Awesome video, and some really great tips.

I use my iPhone all the time to add content and to brainstorm. I use especially three apps for this:

WriteRoom. This app is the best I’ve tried when it comes to writing, both on my Mac and on my iPhone. It syncs as well.

Things. This app helps me remember, and add everything. I use alarms, and I add notes.

MindNode Pro. This is a mind mapping app, and helps me to stay structured and it helps me be more creative :)

    • Thanks so much for suggesting those apps. WriteRoom looks particularly interesting. I’ve downloaded a few notes apps and keep going back to the default notes feature of the phone. Haven’t found the one I like best, but this is one I can try now.

  6. Excellent video, Alice! I added quite a few more apps to my iPhone now. Thanks for the overview of everything.

    • Glad to hear it. It’s fun to share. Obviously, I didn’t mention all my favorite apps that I use for business (and play)…just for content brainstorming. Should share those later because it’s great to hear what other people have found.

  7. What, no mention of EverNote? Surely the best app for collecting “stuff” as you come across it when browsing or with photos, etc! :)

    • My husband loves Evernote, but I just didn’t get into it. Of course, we all have different preferences, so I’m glad you mentioned it. It should prove useful for lots of people.
