How Are You Making Your Mark in the Content Revolution?
Written by Annette Elton
I was recently flipping through the November issue of Oprah the other day and stopped on an article by Martha Beck titled “Half A Mind Is A Terrible Thing To Waste.” The article, a very interesting one, talks about how the majority of us don’t use the right hemisphere of our brain as much as our left hemisphere. The right hemisphere is our creative side and the left hemisphere is our logical and reasoning side. She provides exercises and a few interesting resources for exercising this creative side of our brain however one thing she said struck me she said much like the industrial revolution of the late 18th and 19th centuries, we’re in a Content Revolution.
Think about it, if you’re writing for the web, or print media, if you’re creating audios and videos, you’re a content creator – you’re participating in the content revolution. That thought is both empowering and slightly intimidating.
Empowering because it’s great to be part of a movement, to be sharing your story and making your mark on the world.
Intimidating because of the vast amount of competition out there, how do you make your mark? How do you get noticed? How do you affect the lives of others?
Two Strategies to Make Your Mark
Participate – You’re probably already doing this. You’re actively engaged in your niche community. You’re writing content, blogging, commenting on blogs, participating in social networking and sharing your knowledge, expertise and experience. You’ve created a community around your business through your content and are actively engaged with your prospects. Content is the key here and the more quality content you can put out there, the better.
If you don’t have enough time to create the content you want, consider outsourcing some of the work. You can hire a reputable company to research, transcribe, and of course ghostwrite for you.
Innovate – Innovation is defined as creating something new or doing something in a new way. This means exercising the right hemisphere of your brain. Bringing something new, whether it’s content, products or services, is the best way to make your mark. Beck, offers tips on exercising your right brain hemisphere in her article and recommends a book by Daniel Coyle, “The Talent Code.” You can also find right brain exercises online. Some of them feel pretty strange however, this is probably the most fun exercise you’ll ever do and stretching those creative muscles can lead to some amazing ideas!
We’re all already participating in the Content Revolution and many of you were leaders in it, you were first on the scene to participate in this marvelous medium – the Internet. Get creative! Exercise those creative muscles, and keep participating and growing and connecting with your audience.
