How to Create Print Content When You’re Not a Writer
Written by Annette Elton
While working on a client project recently I came across the book “Crush It! Why Now is the Time to Cash in on your Passion,” by Gary Vaynerchuk. (Great read by the way, highly recommended.)
In the book Vaynerchuk talks about content styles – among other things he’s a a video blogger and has won acclaim for his Wine Library TV blog.
He offers three types of content bloggers and business owners can create depending on their DNA – their personality, aptitude and preference.
The choices are:
• Video
• Audio
• Print (writing)
As a writer, there’s not much of a question about where my DNA guides me. However, it does pose the question for others who are not writers and need print content for their website or blog.
How Do You Create Content if You’re Not a Writer?
Well PLR and Ghostwriters are an obvious solution. However, budgets and personality marketing don’t always lend themselves to those choices.
I’ve been toying with Dragon Naturally Speaking lately. The voice to text software has come a long way. This technology enables non-writers the ability to create content by speaking.
Having used this software to transfer my longhand content to a digital file, (I like to write the old fashioned way sometimes. Good old pen and paper) I’ve spent the time to learn the ropes.
The learning curve for Dragon is a bit time consuming. You have to train it to recognize your speaking patterns and you need to learn the intricacies of conducting the software to do simple tasks like “scratch that” and “go back.”
However, once you’ve mastered the software and gone through the training process, it’s a very quick way to create quality content. Particularly if you’re a natural speaker. All you need is a plan or script and you can create your content quickly and easily.
And, if you’re like me and you write content in a notebook from time to time, it’s a great way to transfer handwritten content to a digital file quickly.
Embrace Technology to Get The Job Done
If writing isn’t in your DNA and you still need written content for your blog or website, consider voice to text software like Dragon Naturally Speaking. They also have a handy iPhone/iPod application that lets you dictate on your mobile device – think about the amazing blogging implications that technology offers!

You guys are lucky. My Dragon Dictation app doesn’t understand a word I say! Luckily, I do much better work with my fingers than with my mouth.
