Can You Use Humor In Your Content?

Writers and business owners often ask me if it’s okay to use humor when they write. And the answer is invariably the same. “It depends, are you funny?”
My dad used to say, to the point where I still roll my eyes when I hear it despite the validity of the phrase, “Can is a question of your ability.”
Can you be funny?
We’ll that’s up to you.
Should you be funny however, is another question.
If you are funny, go for it. Write those jokes, share those funny stories, and twists. It’s a great way to brand your business, draw readers to your blog or website and forge a connection with your audience.
(The only caveat to using humor is if it’s a serious topic and an attempt at humor, no matter how funny, would be considered inappropriate by your audience.)
The trick, of course is knowing if you’re funny or not. We all like to think we’re funny. Heck, I’m downright hysterical half the time, but others may not see it that way.
