Putting a Fresh Perspective on a Topic That has Been Done to Death
Written by Kathryn Lang
It has been said that there is nothing new under the sun and with all of the information available over the internet it is probably truer now than ever before. The best thing that writers can do is to take information that has been done to death and put a fresh spin on that information to make it new to readers.
Creating a Fresh View on an Old Topic
- 1. Say it in your own voice. Take your personal experiences and weave the old information into those new experiences. It will help to freshen up a topic that may have been overdone and it will also give the article a personal touch which makes it more appealing to readers. No one can tell the story from your unique perspective.
2. Become an expert in the topic or find an expert that you can quote. Nothing brings new life to old information as fast expert testimony. People want to know what “they” have to say.
3. Come at the topic from a new angle. Use some creative new directions to come up with article ideas and then spin those into the old topics. It will combine ideas together but it will also bring a new tone to something old.
4. Make the topic timely. Connect the information to things that are going on right now. Etiquette has been around since society first began but giving the topic the twist of Twitter or cell phones makes the information more up to date.
5. Say it with a twist. Write the material in the form of a story complete with dialogue. Put the topic in the form of a poem or add music and images. Pretty up the package a little and you can make old topics more interesting to new readers.
6. Share the link love. Instead of rewriting the things that have been written to death just find all of the best places that have already written and link to those locations. You can give a nod to other great sites and a strong list article is always a good way to get attention to your own site.
7. Point it out. Write out the information in a point by point format. Make it easy for the readers to skim the information by including subheading and bullets.
8. Quote the stats. Find the details of the topic and highlight those. It will give a little new life to an old topic but it will also help to increase your own expertise in the subject.
The information that has been covered time and time again is often the information that readers are seeking. No writer wants to just repeat what has already been said before in the exact same way. The way to draw readers is to make topics that have been done to death seem fresh and new by following a few of these simple tips.
