Keep the Words Flowing

Written by Kathryn Lang

Writing on a schedule can be tough. Life gets in the way of keeping a regular writing routine. Family asks you to do things because “you do work at home.” Unexpected circumstances pop up and knock things off track. Things happen but the writing must go on.

There are ways to write even when circumstances distract your attention. Finding the tricks that work for our life or just for the moment will help you keep the words flowing no matter what you face.

10 Tips for Writing Quick Content

    1. Write out a list of ten points about a subject or idea. Write an opening paragraph about the subject. The next part of the article is the subtitle (and it helps to include your keyword in the subtitle). Bullet your ten points and include one or two sentences for each point. You now have a solid article for your website.

    2. Expand that one article to a series of articles with a few simple adjustments. Break down each of the ten points into an individual article. Write five to seven paragraphs on each point that you included in your original post. You will have ten more articles for your website.

    3. Take the ten expanded articles and expand each one into a chapter. This will provide you with enough content for your own eBook. You can use the eBook to encourage people to sign up for your website or for a newsletter or you might even want to consider expanding on your eBook to pitch as a traditional print book.

    4. Revisit an old idea from previous posts. When you are in a pinch you can rework old material. You may want to just reference a few of your old posts and link back to those posts or you may have even learned some new ideas about the material you covered in the post that will allow you to offer a new perspective on the material.

    5. Comment on another blog and then quote that blog post in your own post. The quote will help you reach a word count that is substantial enough to get the attention of search engines but will not require as much though or time from you. Be sure that you link to the original post in your content.

    6. Review a product or service that you are currently using. You have already done the research. All you need to do it put down your thoughts. You might want to contact the company and get a quote or link to their website.

    7. Review a blog that you enjoy. Recommending another blogger helps you build relationships online and also builds your expertise with your readers.

    8. Write a rant. Sometimes you just need to get a few things off your chest. Those ranting posts are usually the easiest to write. Take the time to review the article for grammar and spelling.

    9. Create a list of potential headlines. Sometimes having the right title is all that you need to complete an article. Use a take on headlines you see on other blogs, in print magazines or even items you hear on the television.

    10. Make a top ten list around an event or holiday. Use your own experience and opinions to fuel the writing muse. You can take those ten points and offer tips in podcasts or even on radio stations that cover your niche.

The most important part of creating quick content is to have an idea that you can follow. Sticking to the things that you know and enjoy will be the best method for finding ideas and keeping the words flowing in your content.
