Don’t Know What to Write About? Here’s Some Help

Written by Angela Wills

As I sat down to write another (hopefully awesome) post for Contentrix I wondered what to write about. So the first thing I did was point my browser to the Blueprints page here on Contentrix.

In that section I found great blueprint reports on:

  • Link Building
  • Target Market
  • Selling With Words
  • PLR
  • Bylines
  • Content Ideas
  • Headlines
  • Openers

The one that caught my attention was the content ideas since it was just the topic I was feeling a little stuck on. So I decided to write an article on how to decide WHAT to write about.

You see what I did there?

1. I found out what was important to the market I was writing for and the publisher of this site by reviewing the ‘premium’ content.

2. In the process I also created content for my own article.

You can do this too by using your own experiences coupled with a highly targeted topic.

Here are some other ways to come up with content ideas for your business blog or website:

1. Do a Google Search: If you’re really stumped a quick Google search will usually pull up plenty of ideas to work with. I often do this to get ideas for posts on my own blog. Many times there will be incomplete or missing information on the topic I search and I immediately get ideas on how to do it better.

2. Work With What You’ve Got: When you’re too close to something it’s easier to loose sight of what you’re working with. I hate to admit this but would you believe this was the first time I took a look at all the Blueprints as an example of what you’re looking for here at Contentrix? If my goal is to provide you with quality content on content, then the menu of great reports here should be on my radar every time I go to write a post.

3. Ezine Articles: The article directory known as Ezine Articles is one of the biggest sources of content on the internet. If there’s a topic you can think of, it’s most likely on this site. So next time you’re feeling stumped a quick search of the article database should bring up plenty of ideas and inspiration to get writing.

4. Review Past Topics: Did a particular topic get a great response in the past? Don’t let it die so easily. Most often your readers are just waiting for more information on the same topic, presented in a new or unique way. Don’t leave them hoping for more – think of new ideas for an old topic.

5. Keywords: Those who read my stuff will know I love my keywords. Doing your keyword research just makes sense in so many circumstances. A quick check of the free keyword tool at Wordtracker can give you a wealth of ideas for blog posts, articles, reports and more.

No matter where you find your ideas for creating your content, one thing is a given: Deliver the information your market is looking for and they’ll be coming back to read again.
